stigmata of ascidian tunicates, arranged in paired dorso-ventral columns like the stigmata of ascidian and doliolid

چکیده
columns like the stigmata of ascidian and doliolid tunicates, while the presumed atria extended far forwards right and left of the stigmata and therefore right and left of the pharynx, as in ascidian tunicates. Furthermore, the atria opened antero-dorsally as in ascidian tunicates, and these anterior openings were paired as in post-larval ascidian tunicates. As a tunicate, Jaekelocarpus probably belonged to the stem group of the Tunicata because it retained the primitive features of a calcite skeleton and a downward-flexing tail which, as parsimony suggests, would not have existed in the latest common ancestor of extant tunicates. If a tunicate, Jaekelocarpus would necessarily belong to the crown group of the chordates, as the chordate interpretation of mitrates and cornutes has long proposed for mitrates in general.A

Botrylloides pizoni, a new species of Botryllinae (Ascidiacea) from the Mediterranean Sea
A new ascidian species belonging to the Botryllinae was discovered in the Gulf of Taranto (South Italy). This new species was collected in different seasons over a period of several years, which allowed information about its biology to be obtained. The new species presents large zooids arranged in ladder systems. The zooids have several rows of stigmata, the second one complete, ovary posterior...
متن کاملDevelopment of Ciona intestinalis juveniles (through 2nd ascidian stage).
Following the reading of its draft genome sequence and the collection of a large quantity of cDNA information, Ciona intestinalis is now becoming a model organism for whole-genome analyses of the expression and function of developmentally relevant genes. Although most studies have focused on larval structures, the development of the adult form is also very interesting in relation to tissues and...

Use of calcite crystal optical properties in the identification of calcareous nannofossils and Didemnid Ascidian Spicules in three stratigraphic sections in the Lut block
Crystallography is the experimental science of determining the arrangement of atoms in crystalline solids. Calcareous nanoplankton are one of the most abundant calcite unicellular planktonic organisms on the Earth. This group include coccoliths which are formed from calcite crystals. They are one of the most important microfossil groups in biostratigraphic, paleontologyl and oil exploration stu...
متن کاملTransposon-mediated insertional mutagenesis revealed the functions of animal cellulose synthase in the ascidian Ciona intestinalis.
Tunicates are the only animals that perform cellulose biosynthesis. The tunicate gene for cellulose synthase, Ci-CesA, was likely acquired by horizontal transfer from bacteria and was a key innovation in the evolution of tunicates. Transposon-based mutagenesis in an ascidian, Ciona intestinalis, has generated a mutant, swimming juvenile (sj). Ci-CesA is the gene responsible for the sj mutant, i...
